First things first...Knuckles had to spend a night at the vet, where I'm sure all sorts of unpleasant things happened to him, but now he is back home and although he isn't all better, he's at least improving. Although, I think a lot of his improvement is a direct result of his total, complete, and consuming anger over this:
Don't feel too bad about that look on his face- he's over-dramatizing the whole thing to try to get me to take it off. He also purposely runs into things and looks to see if I noticed so that maybe I'll take it off. I'm not falling for it. Hopefully he'll only have to wear that thing till his vet appointment on Saturday, but we'll see! I will say, he has been a total snuggle monster since he got home. Me thinks he missed me...Otherwise, not too much going on... Watched Knocked Up and Superbad, both HILARIOUS movies that I highly recommend... Cory is working the door at Mickey Finn's tonight and tomorrow (and last night), so if you're looking for something to do, come on up- I'll be there for a lot of the time he's there and the lovely Miss Lauren will also be working. Kyle won't be there tonight, but she'll be back full-giggle tomorrow night. There's a good possibly Dustin will be there, too, cause he's in town for the weekend and you know he loves us so.Hope you're all having a lovely Friday and have wonderful weekends!
P.S. The first person to guess what movie my title is referencing, gets a special surprise.
So, at the tail end of a very fun-filled weekend, I returned home from East Lansing to find that my poor little kitty is very, very sick. Poor Knuckles, Cory and I have now spent the last 3 days going back and forth to vets and poor Knuckles has been poked, prodded, squeezed, and cathetered, while also having various pills and water force-fed to him. Cory and I have also been on constant litter box watch to make sure poor kitty doesn't get blocked up, cause if he does, he'll die! I've had Knuckles for 3 years now, he was given to me by my bestest buddy Angel back when I was single and living alone in a little apartment in Sylvania. He's the craziest, prettiest, weirdest cat I've ever had, and totally worth all of the trouble we've gone through in the last few days, but I can't wait until he's better! I feel so bad for him watching all the things the vet has done to him and seeing how much pain he's in. Cory and I love our little Knuckles, so hopefully he'll make some progress in getting better really soon. For no particular reason at all, here is Knuckles as a kitten:
Ignore the cigarette, that's my sister's doing...Before all of the sick kitty drama, we did have a really good time up in East Lansing celebrating Cory's sister Dawn's birthday. We all went out to a bar, where Cory and I were approached, interviewed, and photographed for the MSU yearbook for a section about East Lansing nightlife, despite the fact that we told the guys we were from Toledo. The bar was good times, with lots of drinking, dancing, table-writing, and making out with lesbians (OK, the lesbian part was just one person, but still...). After the bar we all stumbled back to Dawn and Sarah's for lots of craziness, sing-a-longs, tacklings, and debauchery.

Followed by me passing out on, and later under, the table...
Which continues my streak of being able to sleep anytime, anywhere...Anyhoo, I'm off to the vet soon to pick up an appetite stimulant so I can try to get Sir Knuckles to eat something... Wish us luck!
Hope everyone's having a happy Tuesday!P.S. Cory's working the door at Mickey Finn's this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, come up and visit!
So, Cory and I were talking last night and somehow the conversation got steered to porn and how expensive porno videos are (I think the conversation started because our roommate has a porn he rented from the video store that's now 3 weeks late, but anyway). We were talking about how porno videos sometimes cost $50+, unless they're in the discount bin, and even then they're still usually anywhere from $15-20. Cory commented that he could understand why they cost so much, cause people are degrading themselves and putting themselves on display for anyone in the world to see. Then we realized...there are a LOT of people who have been in porn. Yes, this is obvious, but really- think about it... Think of all the porno shops, just in the United States, even...and think of all the different videos in each shop...then think about all the different scenes and how many people are in each scene... If you really think about it, it is CRAZY how many people are actually willing to have sex and have it videotaped, solely for the purpose of selling it to complete strangers for their "viewing pleasure", if you will. It's sad...Anyway. Hooray for today being Friday!! I'm really looking forward to this weekend; not only for the "not having to wake up at 6:30 a.m. for 2 days" factor, but also because it's always a good time when we go up to East Lansing (which we're doing tomorrow). Not just because of the drinking and debauchery (although that is one of the best parts), but also because of the good restaurants and fun stores they have that we don't. I'll be visiting a fun used book store up there, too, so if anyone has any book recommendations for me, I'm all ears...or eyes, since we're online...Hope everyone has a good weekend! Until next week, I leave you with this super-cute picture of Cory and Stuart's daughter Nevaeh...
Cory's baby-sitting Nev for the first time today...wish him luck!
I am having a very productive week.
Very often, I will procrastinate until the very, very last minute, then rush to get lots of things done all at once. How long I procrastinated before getting all of these things done this week is neither here or there... :) I'm just feeling a nice sense of accomplishment for having gotten so much done. I sold most of the books I was trying to get rid of (big thanks to Miss Bethany), took my cat to the vet for a much-needed check up- and lucky Knuckles, also a shot!
I also finally went to the doctor for my own check-up, paid my car payment, ordered something I've been meaning to order for, like, WEEKS, paid off one of my dentist bills ($185 down, only $850+ to go!), finalized most of the plans for our trip to East Lansing this weekend, and "gathered together" (I can't give away anything more than that, but some work went into this one) all of the things that were included in the package that I also finally got sent out to my good friend Angel today. Oh, and I vacuumed, cleaned the litterbox, did laundry, and still managed to work out and ride the bike trail twice. All in just 3 days or so! --beams proudly--Other than that, it's been a nice, pleasant week... Yesterday Cory and I had some time to kill so we walked around the Secor-Monroe-Sylvania area for awhile...enjoyed some Baskin Robbins, browsed Steel Addictions (now there's a blast from the past- hadn't been in there since '99!)... Cory, Stu and I wasted a good 45 minutes watching the finale of Last Comic Standing yesterday, which is a big deal for us, cause we usually don't watch TV...only to see the OTHER guy win. BoOo! Oh, well... This Monday is Cory's sister's birthday, so a bunch of us are heading up to MSU on Saturday to celebrate with her. Hopefully no one tries to snuggle-rape any virgins this time...Hope everyone's having a spectacular Thursday!P.S. My cat isn't ALWAYS as evil as he looks in that picture....here he is looking a tad more snuggly...
It's official. Summer is ending. Last night I watched Cory help his mom cover the pool for the winter. And for the last few mornings, I haven't left the house sweating after blow drying and straightening my hair (two things that are totally new to me within the last few months, BTW). This summer was definitely a fun one, it's sad to see it end...So, recently I have had some CD's made for me, one of which is a Kings of Leon CD. I've never really listened to them before, and I gotta say, I'm really into them. Good ol' Mike, always giving me new favorite bands...Last weekend was a good one. It was Stu's weekend with Nevaeh...(here she is with Cory, learning keyboards...)
...so a few of us hung out at the house, drank some beers, and played some cards. Cory and I were dog-sitting for his mom, so we stayed at her house and got up bright and early to go to the Carr Park rummage sale with Mumsy, Bethany, and her super-adorable daughter Harmony...
We also went to Lauren's art show, but I'll have to post pictures from that once my mom makes me a disk, which could take anywhere from a day to 3 years...Cory and I spent Saturday night with our friend Sara, her boyfriend Aaron, and some of their friends at the St. Catherine's Festival. Cory managed to find 8 beer tickets on the ground, and we got a free beer ticket from an old friend of his, so we drank a lot more than we planned and I took a nice long nap on Sara's couch before attempting to get anywhere near my car. On Sunday, I felt like crap all day long and pretty much slept the day away, which is a damn shame cause I did stick half of my body outside at one point to let the dogs out and it felt like it was gorgeous outside. I woke up around 1:30 a.m. and managed to eat an apple, then couldn't fall back asleep, so I watched Garden State with Cory, fell asleep, and had a bunch of really odd dreams involving hippies and helping the environment. I blame it on the fact that I've been reading Ishmael, by Daniel Quinn...a very good book that really makes you think, if you haven't read it yet...
Last but not least, my new cousin was finally born on Sunday night!! My poor cousin Claire was induced on Friday morning, in labor all day Friday, and finally they sent her home on Saturday morning cause the baby just wouldn't come out. Finally, she went back on Sunday and little Logan Michael was born that night.
Hope everyone has a lovely Tuesday!
I'm very conflicted about today being Thursday. On the one hand, I'm always happy for a Thursday because it's that much closer to Friday and the weekend, but on the other hand, tomorrow is my friend Amy's last day here at work, so I'm not looking very forward to this particular Friday. I'm very happy for Amy cause she gets to move out to Las Vegas and it's a great opportunity for her, and I'm sure it will be lots of fun, but I'm very sad for me cause my work buddy will be gone. I won't have as much fun around here without her! Last night a bunch of us met up at Bunker's for "Amy's-leaving-let's-have-drinks" drinks, which was a fantastically good time. I even caught myself a bit of a buzz. And Amy got to hear some of the embarrassing stories about me Mike saves up for just such occasions. And believe-you-me, there are a lot of those sorts of stories about me out there...Today we had cake, brownies, and cheese cakes in Miss Amy's honor. Now I have a morning sugar high...In other news, my cousin Claire has NOT had her baby yet, but if he doesn't come by tomorrow morning, she's getting induced. So, one way or another, I will have a new cousin by tomorrow. :)
And if anyone would like to come to Lauren's art show on Saturday, let me know and I'll give you details. To entice your attendance, here are a few of Lauren's paintings...

She now has a new series she's been working on, an elephant series, and they are definitely something to see. I'm so proud of my lil' sister... Have a lovely Thursday!
Recently, I have had the urge to be very productive. There are a whole bunch of things that I would really like to do and get done, and I've *actually* started working towards these goals!
I know, right?
The first thing I've really wanted to do is clean out my room and attic and just get rid of everything I possibly can. Our lease is up in November and I don't want a repeat of last time we moved; plus, I just really don't need or even want all the crap I keep lugging from house to house everytime I move. And you'll never believe it- I've already started working on this and I've actually made a lot of progress! I've cleaned out my closet, my dresser, and yesterday I started on the attic! Be very proud of me. And I figure, I will still go through and get rid of more stuff...eventually I'll get so sick of looking at it, I'll do away with most it. And I have quite the pile of books accumulating that I'm trying to get rid of, so if anyone wants some new books, let me know. I can even send you a list of the ones I've decided to part ways with so far.
Another thing I would like to start working on is sewing a quilt. I've always wanted a quilt, but can't afford one because they're damn expensive. Plus, I would so damn proud of myself if I actually managed to sew something, ESPECIALLY if that something was a quilt. So I have a book. I'm learning. Soon it will be time to select my fabric...
Yesterday, I decided that I should also start working out. I always make sure I get lots of exercise, but usually this takes the form of walks at Wildwood or long bike rides. I'm going to continue to do that, but add in an actual work out as often as possible, cause sure- my legs are all worked out, but what about the rest of me, right? Right.
Anyway, those things are just the beginning... I'll let you know how they each work out.
On another note, I seem to keep accidentally injuring myself lately. First there was the embarrassing injury to my knee at Bethany's party, and now yesterday I was in the attic and stood up, started to topple, and slammed my shoulder into a rafter. So now I have this crazy scrape-bruise that's in just the right spot so that my purse rubs on it. Later I almost fell over 3 times while trying to give Cory a kiss. I've heard of "weak in the knees", but that seems a little excessive. I hope I'm not coming down with vertigo like Lucille 2 from Arrested Development...
By the way....by this time tomorrow...I should have a new cousin! My cousin Claire is due to give birth any minute now... :) Here is her first son, just to give you an idea of how cute this baby is going to be:
Have a lovely Tuesday!
Ever have one of those days at work where it feels like an entire worldwide corporation has gotten together and decided today is everyone's day to irritate the piss out of you? That is the kind of day I am having today. I quit smoking 9 months ago, but I have been having sudden, major cravings for the last half an hour. I won't give in, but if someone were to light a cigarette right next to me right now, I would breathe in SO deeply.Anyway. Hope everyone had a good weekend! I had a great weekend. We spent Friday night out at the Pub with our friend Matt, who we hadn't seen in quite awhile; seeing old friends is always a good time. Saturday, Cory and I rode the entire UT Bike Trail (we usually get to Wildwood, ride around there, and head home after- this time we rode it end to end- 12.6 miles). Later, we met up with Mike and Stephanie for the Against Me! show at Headliners. A really great show- they played a lot of new songs, but still played enough of their old songs so as not to disappoint...
Afterward, we headed over to Bethany and Al's for their long-awaited party. I had some hairy buffalo, which snuck a buzz up on me before I knew what hit me. I also injured myself on their bathroom cabinet, but that is an embarrassing story that requires visuals, so I'll leave it to your imagination. The party was a really good time, we should all get together like that a lot more often than we do.
After the party, Lauren, Sara, and Aaron came back to the house with Cory, Stu, Bobby and I. There is no drunk I love more than a drunk Sara. Her complete 180 from sweet, preppy Sara to gangster, hates-all-girls-she-doesn't-know Sara never fails to provide endless entertainment. And Lauren is just hilarious on her own...

So we ended up staying up till 6 a.m., until Sara was passed out sitting up in our dining room chair and I could barely stand up straight. The next morning, four of us headed out to Bob Evans (after some creepy chanting for Bob Evans from Miss "Strawberry Crepes" Lauren). Cory and I spent the evening at Shayna and Sproles' house, and later Kyle came over for some company since Lauren was still at work. I'm pretty sure she really came over to look at the picture of her and Bobby in love again, though...
Hope everyone else had a wonderful weekend! I just realized I only have 1 hour of work left for today, so there is a light at the end of my Irritation Tunnel. :)
I finally got my Labor Day pictures online! So, let me tell you about my wonderfully fun weekend...
On Friday night, Cory and I went to the Art Museum (one of Toledo's charms) with Shayna and Sproles to see the Andy Warhol exhibit. I discovered Andy Warhol is quite quoteable. One of my favorites: "An artist is someone who produces things that people don't need to have but that he- for some reason- thinks it would be a good idea to give them." After the museum, the four of us headed to a fun little dive bar called The Tropics, where I had an extremely delicious fuzzy navel.
On Saturday, I went out to breakfast with my mom and Grandma. We went to Old Schoolhouse Commons, which is actually an old schoolhouse converted into small shops and a restaurant. Afterward Cory and I rode the UT Bike Trail (another Toledo charm), stopping in at Wildwood Metropark (my favorite Toledo place) for more riding fun.

Later that night, a bunch of us remembered it was our friend Nate's birthday, so we went out to Andrea's Sports Bar. Not my favorite place, but a good time, nonetheless. If Stuart and Kyle ever manage to remember any of the evening, I'm sure they'd agree.
Sunday, my mom and I attempted to hang out with my aunt, who was in town from DC, but no dice. Instead, we spent some time lounging around my Grandpa's yard, visiting, then went for a walk at Wildwood. Cory, Stu, Bobby and I later had my sister, her friend, and Shayna over for way too many beers and drunk babbling, courtesy of Erin. If you ever want to hear embarrassing stories about me, just give me about 4 beers and wait 2 minutes.
Monday morning I was awakened bright and early by the lovely Miss Angel, and went to meet her and her boyfriend, Dustin, at my very first place of employment, the Original Pancake House. We later met my mom at Wildwood for a sweaty but lovely walk through the park, followed by ice cream.

Later that evening, Cory, my sister Lauren, and I went up to the Pub where Lauren and our other sister Kyle work, to keep Kyle company on a non-busy Monday evening. And speaking of Lauren, isn't she just lovely?
All in all, a quality 3 day weekend. Thanks, everyone, for so many good times!
So, it's funny that I posted a blog yesterday about our lawn needing to be mowed because when I got off work yesterday, my boyfriend told me that he and our roommates were working on getting it mowed. And while they were out in the yard, with the lawnmower, the neighbor who lives behind us drove by, saw them, and stopped. She said, "Can you guys please mow your lawn?" and they said, "We are, that's what we're working on right now." and she said, "Oh, thank goodness! That's really great, cause your lawn not being mowed really makes the neighborhood look bad." Then she pulled into her driveway, got out of her car, and proceeded to come to the back fence and tell them 7 more times that our lawn not being mowed "really makes the neighborhood look bad." When I heard this, the only thing I could think of was, "Our LAWN makes the neighborhood look bad? The same neighborhood where someone has set my roommate's bed on fire? The same neighborhood where ALL of our cars have been broken into in our driveway? The same neighborhood where drug addicts and dealers roam the streets at all hours of the day and night? The same neighborhood where the crazy guy down the street regularly stands in his yard, screaming and yelling for hours straight, then climbs up onto his roof to do the worm? Oh, yeah, our lawn is TOTALLY taking this neighborhood down a couple of notches." Anyway. :) Our lawn is now mowed, so the neighbors can rest easy for a couple of weeks, at least. And I got a haircut yesterday, which is always a good time. It's so relaxing and nice to go to the salon. Now I see what my grandma was talking about all those years...
I'm also halfway through the only Augusten Burroughs book I haven't read yet.
I highly recommend giving him a read, his books are fabulously hilarious. Now he just needs to write a few more...Hope you're all having a lovely Wednesday!
